At this year's CMT Music Awards in Austin, Texas, the evening was highlighted by the presentation of the inaugural June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award. This special award celebrates the legacy of the legendary country singer-songwriter and her dedication to helping the underprivileged, and it was presented to Trisha Yearwood by actress Jane Seymour.
Jane Seymour, renowned for her iconic role in Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman and her involvement in the country music community, was elegantly dressed in "The Open Hearts by Jane Seymour Boots," designed in collaboration with Dixon Boots. Seymour shared her excitement about the event, noting the significance of presenting the award to Yearwood, who had guest-starred on Dr. Quinn in 1994 as a choir director. "It's the first time they've done it," Seymour remarked. "I'm presenting to Trisha, who is not only an amazing talent but also extraordinary in what she does for other people. I'm very excited!"
Reflecting on her personal connection with June Carter Cash, Seymour fondly remembered their friendship and collaborative efforts. "June was one of my closest friends on the planet. I helped make Walk the Line," she said. The 2005 film, which chronicled the love story between June Carter and Johnny Cash, was particularly close to her heart, with Seymour having been involved in the project for over a decade before its completion.
Seymour also discussed her deep ties to the country music scene, which were strengthened by her experiences on the set of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, where many country music legends made guest appearances. "Growing up in England, I didn't know much about country music. But through Dr. Quinn, I got to meet icons like Kenny Rogers, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson, who even came to dinner at my house one night."
The CMT Music Awards not only spotlighted the remarkable achievements of country music's finest but also celebrated the enduring impact of June Carter Cash's philanthropic spirit. Jane Seymour, wearing her bespoke Dixon Boots, stood as a symbol of style and substance, honoring a legacy intertwined with her own life and career in the arts and humanitarian efforts.
